The Story Behind My Favorite Secondhand Items
Share your love
Chic finds, smaller footprint. I love the thrill of secondhand luxury!
What comes to mind when you hear about buying preloved items? Are you against it, or are you someone who supports the idea?
Lately, I’ve been practicing more mindful shopping and one of the many ways to do it is by purchasing hand-me-downs, yes I shop secondhand items both online and offline. The reasons? Because some of the items I bought aren’t available here, some are vintage items, and of course for the most obvious reason deals. Better deals as in I am still not sure if I will wear the item long enough to purchase the new one.

Take this Gucci denim blazer. I bought it from a friend who thankfully shares the same size as I am, and he’s letting it go because he feels like it’s not his style. Well, lucky me, it fits my wardrobe for daily necessities. It’s a classic and versatile piece for me, which I get to wear with anything. On top of that, it keeps me warm, as is the whole purpose of a jacket. The buttons make it more stylish and will elevate my casual look.

Coming in second is this Balenciaga Papier A4 bag in grey. I bought this bag from a secondhand store in Japan last October and already let go of this bag to a third hand. I always wanted to have one when I first saw it in Singapore back in 2014, I think it was sold for less than SGD2,000 at the time. I bought mine around 8 million rupiahs in pristine condition. Let go of the bag because I felt it was too small for me and I always bring a lot of stuff, so I sold it to a friend at a very reasonable price as I only wear it a couple of times. This is why I like thrift shopping, the value won’t fall far from the price I paid (this of course depends on how you wear them).

The third one is this Proenza Schouler Medium PS1 in black. I remember seeing a friend who had one in navy blue years ago, at the time it was her 16th birthday gift and was bought when they still had it at On Pedder at Plaza Indonesia. She told me it was 16 million rupiahs back then, and when I checked online today, it was already above 25 million rupiahs. And yes, they don’t have it here anymore, that’s why when I saw this bag available on my online secondhand store, I immediately purchased it for around 5 million rupiahs. This bag fits all of my everyday must-haves, and I’ve been wearing this bag a lot, from work to travel. I will write more about this bag in another post to highlight why this bag is gold.
These were only some of my recent preloved items purchased and will probably purchase more as The Luxury Reports will be hosting a preloved bazaar, Second Scene, from 31 May – 1 June 2025 at Urban Forest Cipete. This is not an ordinary preloved bazaar because we get to shop the collections from Indonesia’s fashion personas like Nagita Slavina, Harumi, Tasya Farasya, Monica Amadea, Titan Tyra, and more. So don’t wait up, let’s shop responsibly from 10 am till 8 pm this Saturday and Sunday!
